Beacon Mental Health Services is founded by Dr. Sandy Thomas and exists to serve individuals and families in need of psychiatric care and counseling services.

Haley Owens, LAPC
Haley Owens is a licensed associate professional counselor with a goal of helping her patients on the journey to healing and restoration. Haley completed her Bachelors in Biology at Kennesaw State University in 2010 and graduated with a Masters in Professional Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in 2013.
She specializes in understanding the needs of individuals who suffer from the variety of mental health disorders and has a demonstrated competence in Christian counseling. She has additional skills in helping people struggling in crisis and stressful circumstances.
Areas of Practice: Depression, trauma, grief, anxiety, boundaries, communication, relational patterns, spiritual issues, stress management, and self-esteem.
Ken Miller, LAPC
Speciality: Pastors, Men, Couples, Adolescents
Ken is an Associate Licensed Counselor and a PhD student. He has been a clinical counselor for four years and has nineteen years of pastoral counseling experience. As someone that’s worked with a counselor to work through his own anxiety, anger, and depression, Ken believes his personal journey helps him relate to clients that are struggling.
Ken has a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Masters of Professional Counseling from Liberty University, and is currently a PhD student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Liberty University.
His primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but he incorporates other evidence based treatments depending on the client’s needs and preferences. As a trained Christian theologian, Ken can provide Christian integrated therapy that combines biblical principles with evidence based treatments (when requested by the client).
Ken believes that people have the ability to change the trajectory of their life both spiritually and psychologically. It takes a lot of work, but Ken is committed to helping you on your journey to feel better and get better.
Lori Johnson, LAPC
Speciality: Adolescents, Children 10+, Families
Lori is an Associate Licensed Counselor who comes to Beacon after working in community counseling for several years. She is pleased to now meet clients in a professional and private practice setting with Beacon. Lori is committed to growing in evidence- based methods, which help clients in moving toward their desired goals. With a background in church and clinical settings, she has experience with children, adolescents, and adults. Her passion is to help restore hope and joy in their journey, Lori has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Lee University and a Masters of Science in Community Counseling from Georgia State University. While training for her Master’s, she attended a joint program at what is now known as Richmont Graduate University (formerly PSI), where she earned a Certificate in Christian Counseling. This training provided the passion for Lori to integrate biblical truths into the counseling relationship, where it is desired. For over 24 years, Lori applied her training to a ministry setting. In 2016, she began the journey toward her professional licensure to enrich her counseling practice with evidence- based methods. She primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions Focused Approaches, and other researched based approaches to help her clients return to hope and joy in their journey. Lori will be accepting Clients as of March 7, 2019.
Dr. Sandra Thomas
Dr. Thomas recently relocated to Atlanta, GA. She completed her Psychiatry Residency at Duke University Hospital in 2011. She is also board certified in Family Medicine; however, she spends most of her time providing psychiatric care as her goal is to improve her patients' quality of life, which mental illness can greatly affect.
She enjoys working with the general adult (18 years old and above) and geriatric populations. She is able to diagnose and manage Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Sleep Disorders, and various other psychiatric diagnoses. She also specializes in performing ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), which is very effective in treating Major Depression as well as other psychiatric diagnoses, including Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder.
